William Kentridge (b. 1955, Johannesburg) was educated at the University of the Witwatersrand and the Johannesburg Art Foundation, and later studied at the L’École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq. Recent major solo exhibitions have included SFMoMA, MoMA, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Albertina Museum in Vienna. His opera and theater works, often in collaboration with Cape Town’s Handspring Puppet Company, have been shown at Brooklyn Academy of Music, New York’s Metropolitan Opera and Théâtre des Champs Élysées in Paris. He lives and works in Johannesburg.
